Years after evicting a shareholder/tenant for various reasons and selling off their co-op unit, we were brought in, on a pro bono basis, to help recover the decades of the tenant's equity that the co-op wrongfully retained, in tacit violation of their ethical obligations.
It was truly unfortunate that an attorney was needed at all to recover these funds - particularly here, where the eviction temporarily forced an older widow into different homeless shelters.
In the end, we were able to compel the co-op to, at long last, honor their fiduciary obligations, and return to our client $240,000 in monies owed.
